Compare/Contrast Essay Notes
Tomorrow, you will write a compare/contrast essay based on the novel and movie, Summer of Fear. Review your graphic organizers in preparation and bring them in to be submitted for a grade.
Also, plan your essay by reviewing the notes below. If you bring this print out to class tomorrow, you can use it on the assessment.
Be prepared! You will only have 40 minute to write!
Compare/Contrast Essay
1. Introduction: Make mention of Lois Duncan's novel and the movie. Give a one sentence description of the plot. Say that they are very similar, very different or have many important (or interesting) similarities and differences. YOU choose your side.
2. Body Paragraph ONE: , choose one IMPORTANT way that they are similar. Examples: How was a certain character portrayed? Or, was the setting the same? Was a conflict portrayed in the same way? Show how they are similar. Why do you think that the movie/producer chose to keep it the same?
3. Body Paragraph TWO: Choose one significant difference. Why do you think the movie producer changed it for the movie? Was it a good choice to make the change? Or, was it a poor decision? Why?
4. Conclusion: In this paragraph, give a brief, general summary of the most important similarities and differences. What to you told the better story, the film or the novel?
