Today's journal:
Do we learn more from our mistakes or our successes?
Though one might assume that learning happens more from mistakes, I believe that we learn more from successes than mistakes. Successes validate our actions. We learn that positive actions and reactions can result in positive consequences when we are successful. Success also builds self-confidence. I find that sometimes when someone makes a mistake, he or she cannot see the error of his or her ways. Successes are easier to see. When I was in school, I learned this personally. Math was always a struggle for me; however, once I began seeking extra help, I saw success. Therefore, I learned that when I changed my behavior, the outcome changed in a positive way. Unfortunately, though I had failed test after test, I had never changed my behavior before. My success helped more than anything I did before. Clearly, successes can be more educational than mistakes.

And, today's journal...
You had to assume the voice of Miss Masi and write a letter describing what she was would say about your strengths and weaknesses. If Miss Masi were to write you a letter describing my strengths and weaknesses, here's what she would say:
Dear students,
I understand that you met Ms. Restaino today. She told me how excited she is to be working with you. I am sure you will get along with her very well. I also thought you might want to be aware of some her strengths and weaknesses.
Ms. Restaino has several notable strengths. She loves to write and writes quite often. She has even published her own play! She has not, however, written very many children's stories, but she hopes to find time to do so soon. Because of her background in drama, Ms. Restaino is also very theatrical. You will notice she sometimes speaks in different accents. British and Mid-Western accents are her favorites. But, don't worry, she'll switch back to her real voice eventually.
Everyone has weaknesses and Ms. Restaino is no exception. You should know that she is an awful counter. Math was never her strength! She will sometimes miscount handouts. So, please help her out by giving her extras or letting her know when she has left someone else. It is never done intentionally. Ms. Restaino is also easily distracted. I know some of you like to tap your foot or click your pen. She can hear anything though. It is almost like she has super-sonic hearing!
I know this change will not be easy for you; however, please know that you are in good hands. I will do my best to keep in touch. And, I would like you to do your best to help Ms. Restaino.
Be good!
Sincerely,
Miss Masi
